PM: Belarus' agriculture should be self-sufficient, self-financing

MINSK, 14 March (BelTA) - Belarus’ farm production should be based on the principles of self-sufficiency and self-financing, Belarusian Premier Mikhail Myasnikovich said at the session of the Council of Ministers Presidium held on 13 March to discuss the fulfillment of the 2011-2015 countryside development program in 2011.

"Agricultural production should become self-sufficient and self-financing with a gradual reduction of public support," the Prime Minister stressed.

Last year, government expenses on the agro-industrial complex made up Br8.14 trillion, or 10.2% of the consolidated budget expenditure (9.9% in 2010). Despite a difficult economic situation in the country, the agricultural sector received Br12 trillion in credit resources. The gross output growth made up 106.6% last year.

Mikhail Myasnikovich views the national rural development program as one of the top government programs. The major goals of the sector are to increase the production output and enhance the efficiency of the agro-industrial complex in general.
