FAO Launches the New FAOSTAT Platform

FAO - The new FAOSTAT platform has been developed as part of the Organization's efforts to increase access to food security and agricultural data.

Visitors to the site - available in English, French and Spanish - will continue having free, open, and easy access to data for 245 countries and territories worldwide, from 1961 onwards. Just as in the previous version, users will be able to download, manipulate, use and re-use data compiled by FAO. The platform also contains new functionalities that allow users to do much more with the data. All FAOSTAT domains are together in one easy-to-use interface. This makes downloading data and analysis much simpler.

Other improvements include:

- New and easier ways to visualize data. The Browse data option allows users to query and view data by domain and by country through interactive maps, tables, and charts.

- Improved data search. The Advanced data search provides users with the option of searching by item, element, country and region.

- Users can compare data from different countries and/or items through the Compare data option for the selected domain and time series.

- A new and still experimental analytical tool for more complex statistical calculations. Analysis allows users to perform statistical analysis with FAO data. For univariate statistics, operations include maximum, mean, median, quintiles, standard deviation and variance. It is also possible to run linear regressions and construct covariance and correlation matrices.

- The improved Download data option for faster extraction of data and a more user-friendly interface. Plus there are no longer limitations on the amount of the data that can be downloaded.

The platform will continue to be developed over the next few months based on feedback from users. Please send your comments to FAOSTAT@fao.org . Or you can click on the feedback button on the website.

The site is available externally - together with the current version - at http://faostat.fao.org
