Switzerland shows interest in Belarus forestry business

Switzerland got interested in the terms of conducting joint business in the Belarusian forestry industry. The issue was discussed in a meeting between Forestry Minister Mikhail Amelyanovich and head of the Swiss forest association, owner of several companies, MP Jean Francois Rime on 30 March, BelTA learnt from spokeswoman for the Forestry Ministry Ruzhena Novitskaya.
In particular, the sides discussed opportunities of setting up joint companies in logging, woodworking, and wood fuel production.
The talks were held in the Forestry Ministry as part of a visit of Swiss businessmen to Belarus. In a meeting with Forestry Minister Mikhail Amelyanovich, the Swiss official was interested in the export potential of the national forestry companies and conditions of doing business in the Belarusian forestry industry.
Mikhail Amelyanovich told the guest about the national industry and noted that this sector is always open to cooperation and is keen on economic ties with Switzerland. Apart from joint companies, the Belarusian forestry can offer its timber, hunting services and ecological tourism to Switzerland.
Jean Francois Rime noted that he is in Belarus for the first time and his main intention is to get familiar with the country, study the industries that might be promising for investment. He thanked the Belarusian minister for the meeting and noted that he finds some areas particularly interesting for cooperation.
The sides agreed to share more information and consider opportunities for organizing meetings for interested companies and forestry specialists of the two countries.
